Intro to Whitewater Kayaking Class

Class Description
In this class you will learn the basics of whitewater kayaking including:

  • how to do a wet exit in the event of a capsize
  • how to perform a bow rescue
  • fundamental paddle strokes
  • the kayak roll
  • basic safety and rules of the water

Kayaks, paddles and spray skirts will be provided. Please come prepared to get wet. You may want to bring nose plugs and warm layers such as a wetsuit or drytop.

Cost

  • $125 for five, 1.5-hour class sessions over five weeks
  • JCC Members receive a $20 discount
  • ACA Members receive a $10 discount (American Canoe Association)

Time

  • Mondays OR Wednesdays 7-8:30 pm (please see Upcoming Classes)

Location

  • Jewish Community Center indoor pool: 2 North Medical Drive (across from the University of Utah Hospital)
